Background information
"Erich GRISAR from Dortmund, previously known as a working-class writer, is discovered as a photographer in the volume 'Ruhrgebietfotografien'. Between 1928 and 1933, Erich GRISAR created numerous photographic series on the Ruhr region. Industry, work, people, the hardships of everyday life and childhood were the subjects that particularly interested Erich GRISAR and which he sensitively documented.
Content
The catalog volume 'Erich Grisar Ruhrgebietfotografien. 1928-1933' for the exhibition in the Ruhr Museum at Zollverein and in the LWL Industrial Museum Zeche Zollern presents about 200 b/w photographs by Erich GRISAR, which were mainly taken in his hometown. The spectacular, previously unpublished photos show an inside view of the coal-mining district in the late 1920s, everyday urban life, hard physical labor and the housing estates with the mighty industrial plants in the background. The closely observed scenes on the street, especially of children playing and working, are the greatest discovery." (© Klartext, 2016)
