Background information
Polish photographer Pawel JASZCUK lived in Japan from 2008 to 2010. He often set out after midnight to photograph different people and places. He told himself that the best hours for this would be between 1:00 and 4:00 in the morning. Shortly after starting this work (2009), he published a limited edition zine of 150 copies called 'Salaryman', which sold out immediately. For this issue, titled 'High Fashion', he selected images of sleeping Salarymen in poses reminiscent of fashion models, and the photo book was produced in the style of a glossy magazine, hence the title 'High Fashion'. According to Pawel JASZCUK, this work is explicitly not a statement against drinking. Originally, he wanted to capture the simple contrast between men in nice suits and dirty streets, but his view of the work has evolved in recent years. Now the photographer hopes that the release of 'High Fashion' will act as a humorous apocalyptic vision of this overworked and overburdened society.
