Background information
"The residential studio on Drakeplatz, which Joseph BEUYS moved into with his small family in 1961 after he was appointed professor of monumental sculpture at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, was a magical place. Here, work on groundbreaking art concepts mingled with child-rearing; here, people cooked and discussed; here, family and foreign visitors stood in awe before sculpturally stunning creations. From here, the impact of Beuys' image of art and humanity eventually spread throughout the world.
