Background information
"Yusuke YAMATANI was inspired by his interest in other people's houses. Although they are an inorganic entity, houses change with their inhabitants and can never be separated from human activities. Of course, even with an infrared camera that reacts to invisible rays, we cannot see inside these houses. The desire to catch a glimpse of human activity, despite its impossibility, has reminded him strongly of 'seeing' and 'being seen'. We now live in a contradiction: on the one hand, we are afraid of being seen by others and on the other, there is a desire to see and know more; this contradiction escalates when we come into contact with a large amount of information on a daily basis. Entering into the realm of the other, from the overwhelming abyss between the self and the other that emerges late at night in residential areas, along with the gap between oneself and the world, makes him feel a peculiar sense of comfort."
