Background information
Prosopagnosia refers to the difficulty of recognizing other people from their faces. It is the name of the book project by Joan FONTCUBERTA and Pilar Rosado, based on the historical photo archive of a local Spanish newspaper from the 1930s, dedicated to personalities of the time. This collection of faces is the starting point from which an algorithm called G.A.N (Generative Adversarial Network) develops a process of automatic generation of a collection of new faces, photorealistic images of people who do not exist.
Content
The photographic book 'Prosopagnosia' by Joan FONTCUBERTA and Pilar Rosado shows on the front of the leporello portraits of people of contemporary history from the 1930s, which serve as the basis of the project. On the back are the algorithmically produced images. While they are photographically compelling, the pages of the book also show the wonderful sequence of failed attempts.
