"'I don't have a first name' was the staggering realization I made one day. Or rather, I no longer had one. The old one was like an old, ugly sweater, a family gift that you were forced to wear. It was old-fashioned, too big, too small, too tight, stifling. It was too feminine. A name is gender-specific, a name tells a story, a name can be changed. Change a name. Yes, but which one? How should one decide? Five names now follow one another, like past, potential, ascribed or appropriated identities.
'La peau du prénom' (The skin of the first name) is the story of my obsessive hunt for a new first name, an essential stage in my journey and in my social transition. It is the testimony of a gender issue that narrates a non-binary queer trajectory in a pluralistic and eclectic form. An intimate and sensitive story, a coming out, a dive between genders that invites everyone to question this social construction." (Lyoz BANDIE)
