Background information
"Leipzig in the mid-fifties, that was Leipzig ten years after the war. Günter BLUTKE takes us back to that time in the photo volume 'Leipzig. Photographs 1956-1959' takes us back to that time. At that time, the trade fair city experienced what today would perhaps be called a building boom.

The black-and-white photographs in out-of-print photographic volume 'Leipzig. Photographs 1956-1959' by Günter BLUTKE show the then new 'Stadium of the Hundred Thousand', the residential buildings on the Ring, the department store in Peterstrasse and the new exhibition halls. In them, this time of new beginnings comes alive again. Likewise in the atmospheric everyday portraits of the people of those years."
