Statement by the photographer, Peter WATERSCHOOT, & background information
"'Sunset Memory' doesn't look back, it plunges ahead. Into an abyss, a paroxysm." (© Peter WATERSCHOOT)
"Hotels, curtains, lost glory: all fixed values in Peter WATERSCHOOT's photographs, depicting the moment after, or before the event. A Janus look on the current of time; is it a story on nostalgia or a future dystopia? We see a cinematographic dreamworld built with elements from the real world; nevertheless referring to literature, film and music, asking questions about our place as a human species in a fast-changing world. The photographer makes us dive into a comfortingly solitary one-ness. The color photographs in 'Sunset Memory' descend slowly, through neon blue, from freezing cold nights into warmtoned covert corners." (publisher's note, © ARP2, 2021)
