Background information
"In this photo volume, 'Land of Ibeji' by Sanne De WILDE and Bénédicte KURZE, double vision becomes the norm. The Belgian photographers traveled to Yoruba country in Nigeria. Here, the birth rate of twins is ten times higher than usual. A fact that is either celebrated with mythical fervor or condemned.
Content
Following in the footsteps of this history, Sanne de WILDE and Bénédicte KURZEN in the photo book 'Land of Ibeji' capture twin couples in color-intensive portraits. They use their play with doubling to stage an imaginative photography that employs double aperture and exposure as well as reflections and color filters. These pictorial inventions result in magical double portraits." (freely translated, © Hatje Cantz Verlag, 2021)
