Background information
This long out-of-print photo book 'Pegel Köln' is the result of a long-term project about urban life as well as the understanding of current urban photography. For over four years, the collector, gallery owner and professor of photography traced Cologne's contradictions. The title of the book is programmatic and stands for a level at which the well-worn genre of the urban photo book can function. No clichés are served here, but the narrative strength of photography is applied.
Content
The black-and-white photographs by Wilhelm SCHÜRMANN in the photo volume 'Pegel Köln' do not serve here as sober descriptions, but are small narratives and show city views with signs of use and wear - and the people belonging to them.
