Background information
"Hannah HÖCH is best known as a representative of the Dada movement and with her photo collages since the 1910s. This book, 'Unknown Rarities,' shows a different, more private photographic artist: landscapes, watercolors and miniatures, memories recounted in painterly fashion, portraits and plant pieces in which her philosophy of becoming and passing is expressed. During the National Socialist era she withdrew from cultural life, defamed as a 'cultural Bolshevist'. A small wooden house in Heiligensee in the north of Berlin offered her and her art refuge during this time of radical isolation. Here she survived war, hunger and loneliness and found a new beginning after 1945.
