Background information
"'Lebensbild' is the last work of Hannah HÖCH, on which she worked from July 1972 to March 1973. The photo-journalist couple Liselotte and Armin Orgel KÖHNE, who suggested the collaged self-portrait, provided Hannah HÖCH with the original photographs for it. The life picture has a format of 1.3 x 1.5 m and is the largest collage Hannah HÖCH has ever made. It forms the end point of a fully exhausted, active life that spanned almost 100 years. Hannah HÖCH defined 38 image sections.Content
'In 'Life Portrait. A Collaged Autobiography' the viewer gets a glimpse into the story of an extraordinary, self-confident woman who lived through all the ups and downs - and at the same time an impression of life in the previous century. In addition to an overview of the entire collage, these 38 excerpts are reproduced in the book. Hannah HÖCH's personal explanations of these excerpts were recorded on tape by the photographers Orgel KÖHNE and are reproduced in the book in excerpts. The accompanying text by art historian Alma-Elisa Kittner provides insight into her work, her person, and the political and social events of her time through a discussion of the images. Alma-Elisa Kittner is the author of the book 'Visual Autobiographies', in which she deals in depth with the image of life." (© Green Box, 2016)
