About German art historian Katharina GÜNTHER
As an art historian Ph.D. driven by curiosity and passion, art historican Katharina GÜNTHER has a strong interest in modern and contemporary art and photography. Her focus lies on 20th century British art, figurative post-war painting, the relationship between painting and photography, augmented reality as a medium in fine art, and conflict art. I am particularly fascinated by artists’ working methods, complex narratives, rich visuals, and everything surreal. John DEAKIN, Lee MILLER, Neo Rauch, Maria Lassnig and Richard MOSSE are among the artists I have written about in the past. I am an expert on the painter Francis Bacon. In 2023, her publication 'Francis Bacon: In the Mirror of Photography', a document of unconditional scientific meticulousness and dedication (...) was rightly awarded the German Photo Book Prize in Gold.
