Personal statement by Anders PETERSEN
"I’m a kind of diary photographer. I try not to take pictures as I see them, but as I feel them. I’m interested in imperfection." (Anders PETERSEN)
Background information
"Since the 1960s, the Swedish photographer Anders PETERSEN has been documenting life beyond the margins of polite society, a world including prostitutes, transvestites, alcoholics, night-time lovers and adult conflict. He photographs his subjects with a candid somewhat detached eye, and is able to disclose unpleasant realities such as drug abuse with a sense of bewilderment and currency. The photo volume project 'City Diary' is an ambitious series of books showing his ongoing photographic engagement with life in the shadows in cities, #1 to #3 include the cities Stockholm, Tokyo and St Petersburg.
Content
The first three volumes of 'City Diary' project by Anders PETERSEN (all long out of print) appear here together and deal with the cities of Stockholm, Tokyo and St. Petersburg; other volumes are to follow, volumes #4 to #7 of the thus completed series have been announced for a long time.
Additional information
In 2024, all three volumes have been reprinted and published together with four more issues for a reasonable price as 'City Diary #1-7'.
