Statement by the photographer, George GEORGIOU.
"The essence of 'Last Stop' is that you may drive the same route every day, but what you see, the ebb and flow of the road, takes on a random character, like a series of fleeting mini-soap operas. The accordion book format reflects and mimics the flow of a bus ride, but more importantly, it allows the viewer to create their own journeys by spreading out the book and combining different images. In this way, the book moves away from an author-directed linear narrative to a book of many possibilities." (freely translated, © George GEORGIOU)
Background information
The 'Last stop' project engages with the topography and migrations of London, it is an exploration of the increasing diversity of a major western city as people continue to change both the urban landscape and the community within it as they move.
Content
George GEORGIOU's self-published photo volume, 'Last' stop', is designed as a fanfold, housed in a slipcase. The color photographs were taken from the top decks of buses traveling throughout London, making the subjects and people photographed 'from above'. This 'elevated' position places the viewer in a kind of 'auctorial narrator' who believes they know more than the people involved in the action.
