"Xinjiang is an extensive autonomous area in northwest China, the landscape of which is characterized by deserts and mountains. Numerous ethnic minorities live in the region, including the Turkic-speaking Uighurs. The ancient Silk Road - a trade route connecting China and the Middle East - also ran through Xinjiang. Today traditional open-air bazaars in the oasis towns of Hotan and Kaxgar are still preserved from this period." (© Wikipedia, 2021)

"The out-of-print photo volume 'Wild Pigeon' by Carolyn DRAKE draws
together my photography from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of
China and collaborative images made by people in Xinjiang. Books' title
is inspired by an allegorical story called 'Wild Pigeon', written by
Nurmuhemmet Yasin, and excerpts from his writing are interspersed
throughout the book.
As with my first book, 'Two Rivers', 'Wild Pigeon' was designed by Sybren KUIPER, printed in the Netherlands and self published." (© Carolyn DRAKE)
