Background information
"The year is 1964 - Nobuyoshi ARAKI is just 24 years old himself - the young photographer seeks out Japanese children on the streets, their unbridled young energy palpable, their camaraderie evident. The boys run and shout, bump into each other for fun and pull faces, each challenging the other in a game of restless enthusiasm, all against a backdrop of concrete, trash and steel. Who exactly, these children are and where they play is irrelevant - the narrative moment in these photographs lies in the nostalgia this series evokes." (freely translated, © Kawada, 2017)
Content
The photo volume, 'Sacchin' by Nobuyoshi ARAKI is a neat, partially deep black printed, slim volume by the world-renowned photographer. Images of this series were already published in 1994 by another Japanese publisher, Shinchosha, with color interleaves, with few exceptions, which are image cutouts of those photographs, there is no overlap, but of course some children can be seen in both publications.
