Background information
WOLS was the pseudonym of Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze, a German painter and photographer who worked primarily in France. Although largely unknown during his lifetime, he is considered a pioneer of lyrical abstraction and one of the most influential artists of the Tachisme movement. The paperback square catalog volume, was published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Wols Photograph 31/1-11/3 1979' at Museum Ludwig, Cologne.
