Background information
"The first multi-layer color film was developed at the Agfa film factory in Wolfen in 1936; as ORWO Filmfabrik (ORiginal WOlfen), it was the most important color film producer in the GDR. Today, only the small company Filmotec still stands in its place. A special, long-lasting archive film is produced there, on which digital information is written in the form of QR codes.
Content
The photo book 'Wolfen' combines different levels: Photographs taken by Tobias ZIELONY in Wolfen-Bitterfeld; the storage of these photographs in the archive film format of the company Filmotec as well as a text that oscillates between essay and science fiction in order to capture an untold story: a story of darkness and cold - the story of the disappearing work in the film factory, which was mostly done by women, including forced laborers before 1945. Darkness was the basic condition of photographic work in the age of analog film. In this work, the concept of darkness is thematized on a biographical, physical and historical level."
