About the photographer, Tobias ZIELONY (*1973 in Wuppertal)

Tobias ZIELONY is a German artist, photographer and filmmaker. In 2001 he completed his studies of documentary photography at the University of Wales and moved to the HGB Leipzig, becoming a master student of Timm Rautert. In his projects with young people he is interested 'less in documenting their living conditions than in depicting their appearance in public space'. In 2015 he exhibited together with Olaf NICOLAI, Hito Steyerl and Jasmina Metwaly/Philip Rizk in the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

'Jenny, Jenny' is not documentary: ZIELONY avoids the journalistic impetus for certainty & truth. To him, the authenticity of the subject is as relevant as the question of the objectivity of the documentary image: both are never free of dramatic elements.
