Background information
"Just as the 'American Dream' is aging and crumbling, Ute BEHREND brings together two discontinued models associated with the good old days of the United States in her photo book 'Cars and Cows', published in a small edition of 500 copies: American classic cars and old cattle breeds. These have more in common with the motorized contemporary witnesses of the 'American Dream' than you might think: both are numbered and registered, emit an unseasonable amount of climate-damaging gases, CO2 and methane, thus polluting the environment and are symbols of an era that drew on the full and celebrated symbols of wealth with a clear conscience.
Contents
The photo book 'Cars and Cows' by Ute BEHREND contains color photographs of Chevrolets, Cadillacs and other classic American cars - some lovingly cared for, others left to their own devices, rusting on the side of the road. Similarly, she repeatedly looked into the attentive eyes of longhorns and other cattle. Kölner Fotografien combined both impressions almost full-page in portrait format on the double pages of the photo book and wrote a very readable text contribution."
