Background information
"American photographer Shellburne THURBER has long been deeply engaged in photographic investigations of the relationship between built space and human energy. Guided by the idea that an animated place is an extension of the body and a space of projection, she has photographed a variety of subjects: Living spaces of deceased family members and friends, classic side street motels, churches, abandoned houses and hospitals, as well as commissioned projects such as the Boston Athenæum and Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park. She is particularly interested in spaces that are simultaneously public and private.
