Background information
"The discussion about Turkey's possible accession to the EU in 2010 was a reason for Andreas HERZAU (1962-2024) to take a closer look at this country. In Istanbul - on the border between Europe and Asia - many of the challenges facing Turkey are concentrated; however, the city also reveals the opportunities open to the country.
Content
In the out-of-print photo book 'Istanbul', Andreas HERZAU captures precisely this wealth of facets: Workers on the ferry from one continent to another, Muslims at prayer, people in front of shop windows and fashion posters. Committed to the genre of street photography, he discovers the city on foot - seeing, walking, waiting - until the pictures find him. This resulted in spontaneous snapshots of public life. And since one encounters all social classes on the street, the photographs reveal a lot about the current conditions and a life between tradition and modernity."
