Background information
"It is one of the paradoxes of the medium of photography that the viewer constantly changes from a perception related to the depicted motif to an aesthetic view and vice versa. Hiroshi SUGIMOTO, one of the most famous artists of our time, has the different aspects of the medium like no other reflected and made vivid in impressive image sequences, whereby he usually placed a subject in the center. Dioramas were followed by cinemas, seascapes, horror cabinets, architectural photos, portraits, pine trees, conceptual forms and other motifs.
Content
This photo volume, 'Revolution' by Hiroshi SUGIMOTO, is the first to present a complex of works on which the Japanese photographer has been working for a long time: Under the title 'Revolution', night views of the sea are shown in large format, which capture the course of the moon over a longer period of time. The special type of presentation in the context of the exhibition, the images are tilted by 90 degrees, result in irritating impressions that differ significantly depending on the world region and latitude."
