Background information
"The most comprehensive exhibition to date on the work of Thomas STRUTH was on display at Munich's Haus der Kunst from April 2017. More than 120 photographs - mostly large-format in the case of Thomas STRUTH - provided information about an artistic development that has been internationally noticed, discussed and appreciated since its beginnings.
Content
The catalog volume for the exhibition by Thomas STRUTH contains photographs from his first series, 'Unconscious Places' (1987), to 'Nature and Policits', which dealt with research and globalization. Thomas STRUTH's intensive preoccupation with universal themes of our time becomes clear here: questions about the relevance of public space, about the unifying moment of family cohesion, about the significance of nature and culture, about the limits and possibilities of new technologies find their simultaneously individual and universal expression in Thomas STRUTH's images.
All groups of works published from 1992 to 2016 are gathered here, supplemented by early works and, for the first time, archival materials that impressively demonstrate Thomas STRUTH's social and humanistic interest in his subjects." (Publisher's text, © Schirmer/Mosel Verlag, 2017)
