About German photographer, author and university lecturer Rolf Sachsse (*1949)

Rolf Sachsse began an apprenticeship as a photographer in 1967 with Karl Hugo SCHMÖLZ and Walde HUTH in Cologne. In 1970 he passed the journeyman's examination and then worked as an assistant with Cologne photographers. In 1971 he began studying newspaper science, German language and literature, and art history in Munich. The following year he moved to Bonn to study art history, communication science, and German language and literature. Since 1979 he has been active as a freelance artist, author and exhibition organizer. In 1985 he was appointed professor of photography at the Design Department of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld, and from 1993 also of electronic visual media. In 1994/95 he took over the chair for Hans Belting at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe and has been an associate professor for theories of design there ever since. In 2002 he took over a visiting professorship for theories of design at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, and from 2004 to 2017 he was professor for design history and design theory at the Hochschule der Bildenden Künste Saar, where he was prorector for teaching and science from 2013 to 2017. Rolf Sachsse lives in Saarbrücken and Bonn.
