About Czech photographer, Miroslav TICHY (1926-2011)

Miroslav TICHY attended the Prague Art Academy in the late 1940s and was considered a talented painter and draughtsman. His life changed after the Communists came to power. He repeatedly spent time in psychiatric institutions and spent six months in prison in 1970/71. After losing his studio, he turned to drawing and photography. He also constructed his own cameras for this purpose, which he used to search for his motifs. He developed the blurred and washed-out photographs himself; in his opinion, imperfection was part of his art. He became internationally known through the curator Harald Szeemann, who exhibited his works at the Bienal Internacional de Arte Contemporáneo de Sevilla in 2004. Miroslav TICHY himself lived in seclusion in Kyjov until his death in 2011.
