"In his out-of-print photo volume 'Titlis' by Walter NIEDERMAYR, the South Tyrolean photographer sends us into the world of eternal ice in a total of 40 medium-format color photographs: to the Swiss Titlis glacier, more than 3000 meters high, which proudly rises above the limits of space and time. Only the people, dressed in colorful leisure wear, moving about in the seemingly enraptured landscape, bear witness to an intervention of civilization. They transform the alpine space into a trivial place of leisure, governed by the laws of consumption. Walter NIEDERMAR's camera captures in exemplary fashion the aura of a mountain landscape transfigured into a myth. Clichéd notions and the striking idealization of nature occupy the experiential space of the marionette-like tourists to such an extent that subjective feeling and perception become mere commonplace."
