Background information
"On March 27, 1952, Fritz TIEDEMANN photographed Berlin's Fruchtstrasse between Ostbahnhof and Stalinallee on behalf of the Berlin Municipal Council. In the form of a facade development, the condition of the buildings there was thus documented seven years after the end of the Second World War and two decades before the demolition that was already planned at that time. These images were the occasion and source material for the photographic-literary project by Arwed MESSMER and Annett Gröschner. As in previous works, the photographer and the author together address the facets of the documentary in photography. The digital montage of 32 individual shots into a panorama creates a portrait of a street along with its residents, which continues in the surviving archival documents and notations researching the history of the place, as well as in the narrative ' Great Beetroot Today'." Criticism, Awards
The volume 'Berlin, Fruchtstraße am 27. März 1952' is "... a slim but exquisitely composed book, a conceptually convincing piece of commemorative culture situated on an intersection between urban, photographic and cultural history." (© PHOTO international)
The title received the 'DAM Architectural Book Award 2012' and was also awarded the German Photography Book Award in Silver in 2013.
