Background informations
Ruth MARTEN chose photographic templates from the 19th and early 20th centuries as the basis for her work. By overpainting, she then literally created fantastic pictures in which the impossible seems to become possible. The fact that inanimate things suddenly lead a life of their own, that a new, unknown order turns our conception of the world upside down, is one of the artistic prerequisites for her, like the Surrealists of the first hour, to create a world filled with puzzles between dream and nightmare . The result is pictures full of psychoanalytic riddles that have arisen from the depths of her artistic subconscious.
Content
The book presents Ruth MARTEN's most recent block of works, consisting of nineteen large-format works on paper, created between autumn 2018 and summer 2019.
