Background information
'Der Riss' is an unusual graphic novel: photo report & travel report with authentic images as a comic. On behalf of 'El País Semanal' the photographer Carlos SPOTTORNO & the journalist Guillermo Abril traveled to the external border of the EU, to Melilla, the Spanish enclave in Morocco. The authors meet refugees, border guards and local politicians, and record their experiences in words and pictures. A unique document of the challenges that arise every day at the borders of the EU. This book IS NOT BASED on real events - it IS reality. Anyone who has read 'The Rift' will see Europe with different eyes!
