Background information
"The out-of-print catalog volume 'Long Moments' was published in conjunction with the Miroslav TICHY and Julia Margaret CAMERON exhibition, 2008. During the 1960s, 70s and 80s, the Czech photographer created a distinctive visual world independent of the contemporary art scene, whose fascination lies in its non-perfection and is reminiscent of the early experiments in photography. Using home-made cameras, he photographed in his hometown of Kyjov, resulting in blurred, spotty images - anonymous portraits often with elaborate passe-partouts.
In contrast to Miroslav TICHY (1926-2011) is one of the early stars of photographic history, Julia Margaret CAMERON (1815-1879). As part of the cultural elite of Victorian England, she had the privilege of being able to devote herself to the new medium of the time, and frequently portrayed her circle of friends. Writers, scientists, artists and their family members were immortalized in dreamy allegorical images or intimate personal portraits. She gained early recognition as an innovator for his experimentation with composition and lighting.
