Background information
"'Papa, Gerd and the Northman' by Ostkreuz photographer Espen EICHHÖFER is his first book of photographs. In the photographs, which were taken between 2009 and 2019, he explores central questions about his origins: Where do I come from? Where am I at home? What is home? Born in eastern Norway to a Norwegian mother and German father, the photographer spent his childhood and youth in the Ruhr region and now lives and works in Berlin.
Beyond the very personal questions, this book also poses generally valid questions in connection with home, identity, origin, national pride, especially against the background of the current political discussions in Germany and Europe.
