This 2nd volume, 'Conversations 2', by Rémi Coignet contains a set of 15 talks he did with players in contemporary photography to investigate the role of the volumes in the work of photographers, designers & publishers - and how their books are designed.

In 'Conversations', Rémi Coignet explores in interviews the question of what role the photo book plays in the work of photographers, designers & publishers and how their titles are conceived. Two more volumes with interviews have been published until now.

In the 1930s, Werner MANTZ was commissioned to produce an extensive photographic documentation. In the photo book 'On Coal Mining in Limburg' this work is presented as an important historical document of a glorious era in the style of New Objectivity.

'A Picturial History of the Empty Chair' by Erik KESSELS & Karel de Mulder deals with the subject of absence. Looking at an empty chair makes us wonder who could sit or who might be sitting there. Not knowing or seeing can make a photograph more exciting.

The last part of an unintended trilogy on the lives of refugees and migrants. 'Rooted' returns to a phenomenon that was already noted in 'Ville de Calais': the many refugee camp residents who find hope, consolation and dignity in nurturing a few plants.

'Ephemere' by Paul CUPIDO emphasizes the volatility of existence in the process of creation, metamorphosis and disappearance. It's about the fragility of life, the interconnectedness of human / non-human and the silence on which every expression is based.

The skin doesn't lie: it is a person's map. Like the paper in this artist's book: it changes, creases or becomes thin and transparent. Strictly limited, various papers-containing, elaborately designed band 'body maps' of Margaret LANSINK was made by hand.

For his photobook compendium 'Canon. On African Photobooks', Johannes Wohnseifer selected titles from his private collection that focus on the African continent. These photobooks, published between 1948 and 2011, are presented here in chronological order.
