About the Nigerian-American photographer and author Teju Cole (b.1975 in Kalamazoo)

Born Obayemi Babajide Adetokunbo Onafuwa, Teju COLE, whose family returned to Nigeria after his birth in the United States, grew up in Lagos. He returned to the United States at the age of seventeen and initially enrolled at Western Michigan University, but shortly afterwards transferred to Kalamazoo College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree. He completed his Master of Arts at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. This was followed by a doctoral program in art history at Columbia University in New York. Teju COLE lives in the New York borough of Brooklyn and has been teaching as Distinguished Writer in Residence at New York's Bard College since 2011.
