Background information
"The Turner Prize winner spent four years travelling the globe to create the images for his latest work (its name translates to New World). Content
This book of photographs, 'New World' by Wolfgang TILLMANS, comprehensively documents the journeys the London-based photographer has made around the globe in the last three years, from London to Tierra del Fuego, India, Papua New Guinea, Saudi Arabia and Central Africa. The results are new views of the realities of our planet, of social situations with people and markets, technology and architecture, but also of nature, animals, plants and the starry sky. They are photographs that, due to the possibilities of digital photography, have an unprecedented density of information and sharpness. 'My travels have no direct destination,' he says. Titled 'Life is Astronomical,' the book includes a conversation between the director of the Kunsthalle Zurich, Beatrix Ruf, and Wolfgang TILLMANS about photobooks and the 'New World' group of works."
