Background information, content
"The photo series 'Jenny Jenny' in the photo volume by Tobias ZIELONY of the same name began with a chance encounter: a spontaneous conversation with a young couple in the Berlin subway and his suggestion to photograph both of them. A few quick photos were taken on the platform at the next subway station. She is always here, she says, and he is welcome to come back for more photos. 'Here?' - 'To the street prostitute, just around the corner! So they arrange to meet, he takes her portrait first, then her colleagues and friends. This is how the forty-part photo series 'Jenny Jenny' was created.
The photo book 'Jenny Jenny' by Tobias ZIELONY is not a documentary. It undermines the journalistic longing for clarity and certainty, because the question of the authenticity of the subject seems just as decisive for him as the question of the objectivity of the documentary image: both are never free of staging. The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition 'Tobias ZIELONY: Jenny Jenny' at the Berlinische Galerie. (© Spector, 2013)
