Background information
"When Miroslv TICHY (1926-2011) was first presented to the general public by Harald Szeemann at the 2004 Seville Biennial, the art world had a new star in its firmament. He was a painter, photographer and ascetic with a convincing power of invention and expanded the boundaries of photography by an equally strange and enchanting chapter: After training as a painter, he spent years obsessively and secretly photographing the women of his home town. During the darkest period of Czechoslovakian socialism, he succeeded in celebrating the beauty of women in the province of South Moravia in a body of work of singular significance.
