Background information
"Germany in the 1950s and 1960s: This was not only the beginning of the 'economic miracle', not only the beginning of new idylls and modest pleasures, not only the blossoming of an entirely new art and cultural scene after the years of National Socialist Gleichschaltung, but also the beginning of Walter VOGEL's photographic work. This was also the time of his training at the Folkwang School in Essen under Otto STEINERT, the most important teacher of photography in Germany at that time.
Content
'Germany. The early years. 1951 - 1969' by Walter VOGEL contains b/w photographs taken in the post-war period in his closer home Düsseldorf as well as the Ruhr area. Since 1951, the 'great German reportage photographer' (Peter Sager in: Die Zeit) observed these early years of the Federal Republic with a critical eye and recorded his insights with his camera in an exemplary manner."
