Background information
"This richly illustrated volume 'New Bauhaus Chicago. Experiment Photography' looks at 80 years of photography from Chicago from both sides of the Atlantic. At the New Bauhaus and later Institute of Design, teachers such as László MOHOLY-NAGY, György KEPES, followed by Arthur SIEGEL, Harry CALLAHAN and Aaron SISKIND imparted a free approach to the medium that shaped generations of photographers. To kick off the major Bauhaus anniversary in 2019, the Bauhaus-Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung, Berlin presents its collection of 'New Bauhaus Photography', unique in Europe.
Content
In the photo compendium 'New Bauhaus Chicago. Experiment Photography' presents those actors and institutions that have inspired and created photography, collected and presented it to the public since the founding of the New Bauhaus in Chicago in 1937. The broad spectrum of illustrations ranges from abstract photograms and material experiments to conceptual and process-oriented series of works. Contemporary works from Chicago round out the picture and reflect the significance of Bauhaus thought for the present." (© Hirmer Verlag, 2018)
