Background information
"Born in New York in 1950 and living in Johannesburg (South Africa) since 1982, Roger BALLEN is one of the most important photographers of his generation. He has published over twenty-five volumes and his work is represented in the collections of the world's most important museums.
With 'Call of the Voit', the Museum Tinguely is showing an exhibition which, as the eighth installment of the 'Danse macabre' series, makes reference to Jean Tinguely's late work 'Mengele Totentanz'. In his often disturbing, irritating photographs and installations, the American artist scrutinizes the human psyche and poses questions about being and becoming.
Content
The catalog volume 'Roger Ballen. Call of the Void' brings together images from the photo series 'Asylum of the Birds' and 'Roger's Rats' as well as a three-dimensional, walk-in multimedia work that forces the viewer to confront their own emptiness."
