About German photo artist Thomas DEMAND (b.1964, in Munich)
Thomas DEMAND is an artist who recreates crime scene and press photographs in paper, true to detail, and then photographs them. After the destruction of the model, these 'second' photographs are then exhibited as life-size photographs, which allow entry into the pictorial space through their deep hanging. The pictorial content remains so striking that, if the photographic model is known, the subject can be clearly identified. He does not see himself as a photographer, although this is his medium of exhibition. At the same time, he is also not exclusively a model maker, since the focus of his artistic work is on photographic reproduction, so that he is best understood as a reproducer of the media or as an illusionist.
