Background information
In summer 2018, the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg dedicated an exhibition to the Dutch photographer and filmmaker Anton CORBIJN, which explored the question of when photography becomes art based on his work at the interface between free and applied photography. At the center of the show is the artist's most autobiographical series, 'a. somebody', from 2002, in which he puts himself in the shoes of deceased rock stars from John Lennon to Kurt Cobain (and which also contains some previously unpublished photographs). Alongside this is 'Cemetery' from 1982-83, an early sequence of grave monuments and sculptures, as well as the icons that made him famous: a selection of eighty portraits of bands and musicians from forty years of his photographic career.
