About German photographer Walter VOGEL (b.1932, in Düsseldorf)

Walter VOGEL has been taking photographs since 1950. In 1952 he first began an apprenticeship as a machine fitter. After training as an engineer and working as a designer and technical manager in a chemical company, he studied photography with Otto STEINERT at the Folkwangschule in Essen from 1963 to 1968.
Since 1954 he published in magazines. Since 1968, Vogel has worked as a freelance photojournalist, including for Zeit magazine, and as an advertising photographer. He became known for his portraits of Düsseldorf artists and other cultural figures, including Joseph Beuys and Pina Bausch, as well as for his photo reports on the Ruhr region. Travel reports took him to Italy, Africa and Asia.
