Background information
"For more than 50 years, the Canadian photographer worked almost exclusively with Kodachrome slide films, and it was only in the past decade that technological advances enabled him to produce archival pigment prints that match the extraordinary colors and intensity of Kodachrome slides. In this respect, his photographs can be considered a prototype for the 'New Color' photographers of the 1970s. This photographic volume 'Modern Color' by Fred HERZOG is the most comprehensive publication to date on the work of this important photographer. He became best known for his unusual use of color in the 1950s and 1960s, a time when art photography was almost exclusively associated with B&W images.
Content
This monograph, 'Modern Color' on the work of Fred HERZOG, brings together more than 230 color photographs, the majority of which have never before been reproduced, and also includes contributions by acclaimed authors such as David CAMPANY and Hans-Michael Koetzle." (© Hatje Cantz 2016)
