Background information
"In 1969, Franz GERTSCH (b.1930) painted 'Huaa...! - Rider and horse at a wild gallop - after a film still' from a magazine. Since then, photographs, almost always taken by himself, have formed the basis of his work. These include snapshots of the young Gertsch family, pictures of a trip to the south of France or the encounter with Luciano Castelli and his dazzling circle of friends or the portraits dedicated to Patti Smith. His participation in the 1972 documenta in Kassel brought the Swiss representative of photorealism his international breakthrough. The paintings in this volume date from this decisive creative phase.
Content
The out-of-print volume 'Franz Gertsch 'Die Siebziger / The Seventies' shows his large-format key works of the 1970s both in full views and in 1:1 sections. Their vibrant painterly quality is evident in these almost abstract-looking details."
