Portrait photography

For the photo volume 'At Home', Susan KANDEL looked for families who would allow themselves to be photographed at home and succeeded in being invited into many private homes. As a result, she discovered that each house she entered was a world of its own.

'Jenny, Jenny' is not documentary: ZIELONY avoids the journalistic impetus for certainty & truth. To him, the authenticity of the subject is as relevant as the question of the objectivity of the documentary image: both are never free of dramatic elements.

For her out-of-print book 'Sailboats and Swans', Michal CHELBIN portrayed prison inmates in Ukraine & Russia. The portraits oscillate between strangeness and reality. The title refers to the wallpaper that often adorns walls and hallways of these prisons.

Out-of-print book 'Mann für Mann' by Roswitha HECKE contains over 40 images from all over the world. Around half of the b/w images were taken in New York City, the rest in Barcelona, Naples, Cairo, London a.o. They all show men, individually or in groups.

'Masahisa FUKASE' introduces one of the most radical and original Japanese photographers of his generation, famous for 'The Solitude of Ravens'. It also includes lesser known works from his multi-layered corpus such as collages, self-portraits, Polaroids.
