This series of photographs offers a view of how the cultural landscape must have influenced German society in the 1930's." (publisher's note)
Review:
"Brazil-based Dutch photographer Erik VAN DER WEIJDE's new photobook, 'Third Reich – Bavaria Trilogy, Part 1', depicts buildings erected during the Nazi area throughout the southern German province of Bavaria.
The photographer sought out and photographed Hitler Youth headquarters, schools, government buildings, bridges and tunnels, private houses, SS barracks, factories and many other sites, unremarkable without the context of history.
Like much of VAN DER WEIJDE's practice 'Third Reich' draws its power from understatement and poses questions of architecture's role in collective psychology. Thanks to 4478zine. " (perimeter)
