Since 1990, thousands of so-called 'Jewish contingent refugees' have come to Germany from Russia and the Soviet successor states. The focus of the work 'Neeues Leben. Russen - Juden - Deutsche' by Michael KERSTGENS focuses on the social life of Jewish communities and the religious and social challenges they had to face.
Content
With the book 'Neues Leben. Russen - Juden - Deutsche', photographer Michael KERSTGENS ends his long-term project on Jewish life in Germany. The starting point for his documentation is the period of reorientation of Jewish life in Germany after reunification and the collapse of the Soviet Union. The book concludes with current reports on Jewish families, which Kerstgens had already photographed in the early 1990s.
