Background information
"The journalist and photographer Dietmar GOTTSCHALL (1938-1997) left behind an extensive artistic oeuvre: over the course of his life, he produced tens of thousands of photographs over many years. Some of these were commissioned works to illustrate his own articles, but the majority were created out of a passion for the medium of photography. He had an inimitable ability to portray people from the street with the same dignity, whether they were business leaders or celebrities. As a trained psychologist, he recognized the essence in those he portrayed that made them unique. The appeal of his photographic work lies in the diversity of his motifs and his special feeling for moments that characteristically capture the world of life in West Germany.
